Georgia Tech Wins 2016 Windward Code Wars Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gearheads (Bounciness) defeated runner-up University of Victoria’s Team Guest and third place finisher Mason Liu, also from Georgia Tech, to earn the coveted Code Wars Robot trophies. The winning team was comprised of students Ben Cousins (team captain), Matthew Fahrbach, Sadra Yazdanbod, Yongkoo Kang, and David Durfee.
“Everyone really enjoyed the game,” Cousins said. “The game really got people thinking, and it was very interesting strategically.
“A great quality of this game was that it wasn’t very hard to code in a simple strategy,” he added. “I think this helped all skill levels stayed engaged and driven throughout the whole day. Everyone who competed at GT sounded excited to do the contest next year.”
More than 200 students from 75 teams in schools around the world — including those as close to Windward’s headquarters as the Colorado School of Mines and as far away as Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia — spent February 6, 2016, writing AI code in a game modeled the financial board game “Acquire.” Each school held local playoffs until they came up with their top teams.
The finalists numbered 6 teams: String Theory from the University of Maryland, Almost Software from the University of Victoria, UCF Squire from the University of Central Florida, Mason Liu from Georgia Tech, Team Guest from the University of Victoria, and Gearheads (Bounciness) from Georgia Tech.
