Customer Snapshot: Interface Clinical Services

“We needed appropriate software that could handle document generation with an output that was visually appealing and engaging to read, and something that was fairly easy to use. AutoTag ticked all the boxes.” — Rob Davidson, Lead Information Analyst

Who They Are

Interface Clinical Services Ltd. (ICS) delivers clinical projects in approximately 3,000 GP practices and hospitals throughout the UK each year. Some of the projects are funded by the NHS and some are funded by industry partners. Most of the staff are experienced pharmacists, so medicines management and medicines optimization are second nature, but the company does much more in addition. All of the services can be broadly summarized as care insight, optimization and integration.

What Sets Them Apart

ICS is part of a niche market in which the company places a high value on the quality of its employees and sound investment in IT and reporting systems. Lead Information Analyst Rob Davidson notes that investment in IT and reporting is important because ICS is a growing business and it’s important to streamline the provision of data back to clients.

How They Use Windward

The system consists of  2 SQL databases. In broad strokes, work-related data comes from the core server, which hosts the main database, and then a separate server collates publicly available datasets, from which ICS creates ad hoc reports. ICS uses Windward to create reports for internal and external use (via AutoTag) and then utilizes Windward Javelin as a scheduling service that emails reports to recipients on an automated basis. (Note: Windward Javelin is now the RESTful engine. The Javelin code is shipped as an “example web application” so that you can see how to implement scheduling in your app.)

The main type of reports ICS generates through AutoTag are clinical audit reports. The reports detail the work carried out by the pharmacist whilst in a medical practice conducting a particular therapy-based review of patients. ICS also uses AutoTag to generate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports along with dashboard-esque reports that look at aggregated data.

How Their Customers Benefit from Windward

ICS customers are now getting key information in a timely manner and in a digestible format.

Prior to Windward, pharmacists were heavily utilizing Excel to produce reports. This introduced risk as the industry is evolving all the time and new guidelines are introduced on how to carry out certain clinical audits. As such, ICS needed to bring the production of reports back to the head office so version control could be applied, thus mitigating the risk of a pharmacist providing an out-of-date report template to a client.

“To achieve this, we needed appropriate software that could handle document generation with an output that was visually appealing and engaging to read, and something that was fairly easy to use,” Davidson said. “AutoTag ticked all the boxes.”
