AutoTag Excel Capable

Boulder, CO, December 11, 2007

Windward Reports®, a leader in enterprise report generation, today unveiled the world’s first enterprise reporting software that allows use of Excel as a design tool.

Windward, long a world leader in Word-linked reporting software because of its ease of use, now adds the advantages of Excel to its portfolio of simple-to-use, superior reporting products.  Windward’s new Autotag 5.1 reporting software uniquely uses Excel to intelligently figure out sums and number formatting, and allows users to build a table which supports calculations.  AutoTag 5.1 still outputs to Word, or any other output format, to produce reporting documents.

“You have huge advantages over all the reporting software out there – including our previous versions – that just use Word,” says Windward Reports CEO and Founder David Thielen.  “You can’t run calculations in Word, and it doesn’t support formulas, while Excel has design limitations producing documents.  Now you have the best of both worlds.”

“Making things easier is what we are all about,” commented Thielen. “It just makes sense for us to keep finding ways to improve the user experience with reporting, and pick up efficiency time along the way.”

According to Thielen, Excel capability has long been on the list of customer requests because of its popularity as a report engine for business users. Business professionals often start off using Excel as a mini database, but then as true SQL or XML databases appear, they must give it up as a design tool, because, until now, no one has supported it’s use for front end design. Now, Thielen says, the Excel lovers among us can rejoice—setting up reports in Excel with a new AutoTag add-in and letting the Windward Engine call their data into it to complete the report.
