What is Catapult?

The Windward Engine includes Catapult, an all-in-one tutorial, trial guide and launchpad. Catapult helps you get started quickly with integrating the Engine code libraries into your application. Catapult is installed with every copy of the Java Engine and the .NET Engine.

Getting Started with Catapult

The tool launches automatically when the Engine is finished installing. The languages you see will depend upon the version of the Engine (Java or .NET) you are using.

  • Catapult is installed by default as a shortcut on your Desktop.
  • You can also reach it through the Start menu (Windward Studios > (Java or .NET) Engine > Catapult.)
  • Plus, it’s accessible through the install directory.

The Catapult Interface

Catapult opens to display the available languages for the installed Engine.

CatapultDotNetCropped

  1. Click one of the languages to see the samples for that language.
  2. Click a sample to access project and files links along with relevant documentation on the wiki, including video and text documentation when available.

Samples are copied to either C:\users\YOURUSERNAME\Windward Dotnet Engine Samples\ for the .NET Engine or C:\users\YOURUSERNAME\Windward Java Engine Samples\ for the Java Engine

NOTE: Java Engine samples are built to run in IntelliJ projects, and .NET Engine samples are built to run in Visual Studio projects. You can use any IDE but if you use an IDE other than IntelliJ or Visual Studio, you will have to configure the project settings yourself.

Quick Java Example

Here’s basic bare bones example in Java. When you click the link, Catapult automatically opens the project in IntelliJ (or any other Java IDE you have installed). We select the example project:

Java_Engine_Java_Menu

and then see the code launch in IntelliJ (any Java IDE will work):

Java_Engine_IntelliJ_Variable_Example

You can then review, modify or otherwise work with the code for this project.
